Modern Cottage
A new chapter for a family property.
A replacement cottage with traditional Muskoka character, built on a property with generations of family history.
The project
Keeping the connection. Creating room for what comes next.
The original cottage had been built by the owner's grandfather. When the challenges of renovation led to a replacement, the project became an opportunity to create a new family cottage while keeping its connection to the property.
Dark siding, white trim and a timber-detailed entrance give the exterior its character. Inside, light-filled living spaces, a kitchen for gathering and a screened porch carry that sense of cottage life through the home.
The rear exterior view shows the scale of the cottage, its broad windows and the screened porch. Interior photographs add another perspective on the gathering spaces and finished details. As a replacement build on a family property, Modern Cottage is a useful example when discussing what to carry forward and what to change for a new chapter.
